Yoga White Lotus – Sivananda Tradition

 Dates:
   Saturday December 5-11, 2015

About the Retreats

Our Byron Bay Yoga Retreats offer a unique week-long program and a daily schedule based upon the ancient teachings of yoga as a life-style, taught in a traditional and pure way – something that most retreats in the west have lost.

On each retreat participants and teachers embark on a powerful and transformative journey that allows them to relax, learn about themselves, overcome many physical, mental, and emotional obstacles and feel renewed, recharged and inspired; taking new knowledge and practical yoga tips to apply to their daily life.

All this in a location that is uplifting, set amongst incomparable nature; one of the most breathtaking spots on the planet, Byron Bay, Australia.

These yoga retreats in Byron Bay are based on the classical teachings of Yoga taught by Swami Sivananda & The 5 Points of Yoga of Swami Vishnudevananda; as taught in the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashrams around the world for over 50 years.

For those who are experienced, you will go deeper into the practice. If you are a beginner, you will learn step by step how to take yourself on this journey at your own pace.

What makes us different?

Most people look to go on a yoga retreat so that they can relax and rejuvenate. There are many on offer with yoga classes, massages and with lots of free time to read and go to the beach or do whatever else the mind finds attractive or what it relates to relaxation. But did you know that relaxation is not really rejuvenating unless you can disconnect from your thoughts even for a few moments?

What most people do not realise is that yoga is a science, a science of body and more importantly of mind. This ancient science has been shared with us through the scriptures of yoga.

The yoga classes are taught in a specific way to maximize the movement of energy through the body, benefiting also the mind and the spirit.  It can not be intellectually created or randomly formed. In this way, the practitioner fully rejuvenates from the core of their being. The experience of a properly taught yoga class is not just one of exhilaration, blowing off steam after a hard days work, but there should be that feeling of complete balance. A feeling of lightness, that everything will be ok.

The purpose of these retreats is so that you can experience the true essence of a yoga practice and understand what it means to ‘do’ yoga.

You will learn what the benefits are of practicing all the aspects of yoga (that’s right, yoga does not only mean physical postures). It will show you that you can reach a state of reconnecting to your true Self (that inner you and the ‘peace’ that everyone speaks of) through having some basic knowledge and tools. So that you can feel what it is like to live like a yogi (without all the cooking :-)).

Facilitators

Madhava and Shyamala founded Yoga White Lotus – Sivananda Tradition in February 2011 and the Sivananda Yoga Centre Affiliated in February 2013 after spending several years as voluntary resident staff at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in London. Guided and trained by Swamis (vedantic monks), this experience demanded an intense and disciplined yogic lifestyle where a daily spiritual practice consisting of asanas, pranayama, mantra chanting , kirtan, yogic diet and all aspects of yoga was required. During this time, through selfless service (karma yoga), they taught internationally many students from around the world from beginners to teachers’ level in classes, courses, retreats and international teachers’ training courses.

Currently living in Byron Bay, they aim to continue the mission of their teachers to spread yoga in the west.  Their invaluable experience, their devotion to the teachings of yoga and dedicated practice are reflected in their classes.

They continue to work in close collaboration with the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres to bring Sivananda yoga to Australia.
