Easter Rejuvenation Retreat, “Juice Cleanse/Detox and Restorative Yoga”

Experience the beauty and tranquility of Gymea – a luscious Retreat Centre close to Mt Warning/ Wollumbin, that has been built and designed with respect and harmony for the local landscape and surrounds. The local Aboriginal name for the mountain is “Wollumbin” meaning cloud catcher. Bath in the special energy that comes from being so close to this sacred site that is of traditional significance to the local Bundjalung people.

You will come to appreciate that it is often what you leave out that can have the most profound effects in your life, as you feel what happens when you take the burden off your digestive system, and allow yourself to heal on all levels in a supported and nurtured environment.

About Juice Fasting

Fresh, organic, cold pressed juices provide everything your body needs: plenty of fresh natural sugars, salts, enzymes, electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and probiotics, all in their appropriate proportions, for the rebuilding your body will be doing during a fast. Because juices require minimal digestion and are readily absorbed into the system, they do not interfere with the need for the digestive system to be almost completely shut down, which leaves the body’s energy available for the deep cleansing and rebuilding activities of a fast.

About your facilitators Liz Costigan

Liz is a Certified Junior Intermediate 1 Iyengar Yoga teacher and is the founder of Byron Yoga Lounge in Byron Bay NSW Australia. She has a background as a Registered Nurse. “Yoga brings us to a conscious state of awareness to restore balance to our body, mind, breath, heart and soul” Liz is committed to studying in the Iyengar Yoga System and has done so for the past 9 years. She has a daily practice and has taught for many years in the Byron area as well as in Flo Fenton’s Teacher Training’s and her overseas Retreats and workshops. Liz teaches both dynamic and restorative classes. Emphasis is placed on safety and alignment and adapting the practice to suit individual body types through the Iyengar system. All levels of experience can benefit from Liz’s vast knowledge and passion to share and enlighten her students through the yoga journey. The yoga sequence on this Retreat will be of a Restorative nature to compliment our theme of “Rejuvination”

Brooke Hankin   Brooke is a health coach with over 4 years experience in a holistic, raw, plant based lifestyle. She has studied Pharmaceutical Science and Biomedical Science at university and has worked in Molecular Genetics. Brooke left the medical industry after going through a series of health problems, which left medical professionals baffled. Having treated herself through a combination of diet, exercise and fasting, she began to study nutrition, with particular emphasis on the science of living and organic foods. Brooke is now a holistic health coach and devotes her time to teaching and demonstrating the preparation of living foods as a way to achieve optimum health.

Preparing for your Retreat

It is important that a pre-fast regiment is followed. The four-day pre-fast program is as follows:

-One week prior to the retreat, eliminate all animal protein (including eggs and dairy), caffeine, grains, highly processed junk food and alcohol from your diet.

-The day before your retreat, eat lightly, trying to keep your diet limited to raw fruits and vegetables (such as fresh fruit salad, and tossed salads). It is most ideal to consume only live (raw) foods (fruits and vegetables), but vegetable soup is acceptable

. -In the first stage (first 2 to 3 days), your digestive system adjusts; your stomach starts to shrink. This is the part in which you may experience the most “food cravings”.

-In the second stage, your body relaxes into this (2nd to 4th day), food cravings and hunger pains subside, and detox is in full swing. Headaches, skin blemishes, and fatigue may be experienced as the liver starts to “dump” toxins.

-In the third stage (3rd to 4th day), detox symptoms are relieved, and possible bursts of energy or euphoria are often experienced.

In the final stage, the last days before breaking the fast, you will end with a renewed sense of health and wellbeing. You will notice some weight dropping off and you should expect to be from 2 to 5kg lighter than when you began the fast. Individual results will vary, of course, but these are the results seen time and again with juice fasting.

One of the best benefits of the four-day fast is the feeling you get after the fast is completed. Your system will be highly alkaline and your immune system will be full of vigor. You will feel full of energy and ready to continue focusing on a renewed healthy lifestyle
